Liesel Badorrek

Artistic Director / Producer / Writer / Performer

Liesel has over 15 years experience in writing, producing, directing and performing in a range of theatrical productions for both young and adult audiences. Liesel began her theatrical career as an actor with various companies in Queensland including the Queensland Theatre Company and Grin & Tonic before relocating to Singapore where she was employed as the Director of Speech and Drama for Cre-Ed Arts and Dance School. She returned to co-found Strut and Fret Productions in 1997 through which she created and performed in several hit festival shows, including Pink Bits for the Adelaide and Brisbane Festivals and Wordpainting for the Out of the Box Children’s Festival.

In 1999 she formed Loose Canon Arts and has since toured throughout South East Asia and the Middle East for several months of each year with performances of poetry and Shakespeare for secondary school audiences and mainly new work for children aged 2 – 12. In addition to creating and performing in a range of adult cabaret shows that have toured locally and overseas, Liesel has written, produced and directed two one-hour children’s comedies, The Amazing Travelling Carnival and Sideshow and Monkeyshines, the latter of which is being presented by the Sydney Opera House as part of their 2008 season. Liesel also performed at the 2008 Sydney Festival at the Famous Spiegel Tent as part of Loose Canon’s early childhood show La Tent Show Fantastico.

Liesel is currently developing Darlingwood Tales, a one-hour children’s musical which will be presented by the Sydney Opera House in 2009.
